About this site

This blog has been set up in order to publicise our new Museum Artefacts project, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF).  The aim of the project is to organise, conserve, research and display items from East Renfrewshire Council’s Heritage Service collection, and to engage fully with volunteers and schools in the process.  This will provide opportunities for local people to participate in, learn from and gain a greater awareness of their own history.

Our Heritage collection includes a large number of items in storage, many of which came from the old Barrhead Museum.  There is a great deal of local interest, and potentially wider interest, in some of the items.  Having a dedicated project will allow us to focus on these items and consolidate the work that has been done to date.

As the Heritage Project Officer, over the next eighteen months or so I’ll be writing about the progress of the project, what we discover about the objects we’re working on, and any events or exhibitions we organise that you might be interested in.  I’ll also use the blog to tell you about what’s going on in the Heritage Service generally and any other local or family history news snippets.
