Hosseini: The Kite Runner
The unforgettable, heartbreaking story of the unlikely friendship between a wealthy boy and the son of his father’s servant, The Kite Runner is a beautifully crafted novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. It is about the power of reading, the price of betrayal, and the possibility of redemption, and it is also about the power of fathers over sons-their love, their sacrifices, their lies.

What a story! It gave me a terrible insight into a culture I have little knowledge of and the difficulties of a child trying to make sense of the world he finds himself in. The story of the kite race was wonderful. I have enjoyed the film, but the book has so much more depth as there is explanation of what was happening. The surgence of the religious zealots was explored and horribly illustrated in realistic and graphic detail.
Wonderful story though, will always stay with me and I will re- read this book. I have recommended it to many people.
HOSSEINI, KHALED - Kite Runner
A son’s relationship to a father, who he worshiped. Yet the father was flawed just like the son. How we relate to the world and our social responsibilities. Different cultures, and the restrictions that they impose. Friendship and betrayal. History, and present-day lives.
Will Sohrab live happily ever after in America? Has Amir finally forgiven himself for his “sin”?
We did enjoy this book. Well written, so much so that we almost felt that we reading non-fiction. Some of the descriptions really hit you, and you could almost feel yourself in the situations. (For example fleeing Afghanistan in an oil tanker - the darkness and the smell) We have now requested his new book, and just hope it is as gripping as the Kite Runner.
